Outdoor Education Performance and Development Programme
This is an education programme providing learners aged 16-19 with an opportunity to study, work and train alongside highly qualified sports coaches and outdoor adventure instructors.
The programme is based within and around professional outdoor centres giving our learners a unique, bespoke and alternative educational experience away from the traditional school/college learning environment.
Learners will partake in a range of outdoor and adventurous activities whilst studying for a BTEC Level 2-3 in Sport (Outdoor Adventure, equivalent to 2-3 A-Levels) and gaining nationally recognised, outdoor sector, specific coaching qualifications.
LEAD Education will provide a unique balance of practical and theoretical based learning where groups are taught through classroom lectures, practical sports, group discussions and portfolio work. The programme itself is a full time, two-year course.
This course is ideal for anyone aged 16-19 interested in a career in sport, outdoor education, adventure coaching, personal training, public services (including the armed forces) and sports management.
As well as gaining the core BTEC qualification and a variety of proficiency and national governing body coaching awards, learners will have the opportunity to engage in work experience placements, residential trips and expeditions. Such expeditions include mountaineering in Morocco, rock climbing/bouldering in France and skiing in Europe.
Our aim is to manage and develop the next generation of young, keen sports teachers, coaches, instructors and performers whilst supporting our learners with their future career aspirations. We strive to continue the legacy and success of the Olympic Games at a local level, particularly from team GB’s success in water based sports such as rowing, sailing and kayaking. To achieve this, we will also develop our learners’ performance and competitive aspects of outdoor and adventure sport as they are coached and guided by highly trained professional outdoor instructors.
